Prepedil carpet Kuba area Eastern Caucasus Late 19th century / first decade of the 20th century This piece being among the most famous, easily recognizable ancient Caucasians needs no comment. But no more laziness! Here is my description.
Carpet knotted in the Kuba area, Eastern Caucasus, late 19th and early 20th century. The carpet knots finely (Ghiordes) hand-spun wool dyed with vegetabl...leggi tuttoe substances on the warp and weft also in wool. The very famous design offers us motifs called ram horns arranged on a main axis and "Sword" designs with double lateral points. The field of the carpet with an intense blue background is completely filled with small zoomorphic motifs and some Karagashli flowers, typical of the Kuba area. Beautiful crab main border. Enviable state of conservation and minimal and invisible restoration interventions even to the most expert eye. A few small abrashes add to the charm of this rug.
