This piece will be exhibited at the next event concerning ancient Caucasian carpets which will be held in Crema from May 15th to June 12th. The carpet will be the cornerstone of the exhibition. Let me explain:

Regarding Akstafa rugs, there is a controversy among scholars whether to attribute this manufacture to one or the other category. Akstafa is located in the westernmost part of Azerbaidjan, (now an independent Republic of the East Caucasus). According to some authors, however, it is only about Shirvan. However, the city of Akstafa belongs to the Kazak district. The beautiful carpet in question has characteristics of both manufacturers. In my opinion in Akstafa carpets knotted in the surrounding areas were collected and sometimes they had lower shaved fleece and structure similar to Shirvan at other times they were knotted with higher fleece and bright wools as in the most beautiful Kazak.
You just have to come and see the exhibition and express your opinion. The Akstafa in question has a moderately high fleece and is reminiscent of the Shirvan, but it is also very bright.
The carpet is in perfect condition except for a few centimeters insert which is an insult to true restorers to define restoration. For the rest, apart from the stains and the thousand cleaning problems already solved, it is perfect with still original headboards, kilims and borders.
