In the western Caucasus area, now largely Armenia, at the end of the 19th century carpets with large geometric designs with a high pile and particularly bright wools were knotted. In the town of Fachralo or Fakralo, the manufacture of carpets knotted on a horizontal loom has developed with a typical design characterized by the very particular elongated medallion surrounded by white.
