| Carpets knotted in the eastern part of Uzbekistan bordering on Kyrgyzstan to the east and on Tajikistan to the south; they are named for the Uzbek region where the “Syrdarya” river flows from the Tien Shan mountains to the Aral sea. The beauty of these pieces is the result of the very successful blend of a western design, immediately seen in the totally modern patterns, and the local traditions which are left intact. The nomad knot used, which approximately corresponds to a Senneh half-knot, is very tight in the warp made up of a single, fairly thick cotton thread. In the local tradition, hand spun yarns with a very high sheen in bright colors are used. The Syrdarya carpets are sold through Pakistan. |
