  CENTRAL ASIA
  DARYA

On this disputed region to the south of Pamir, denominated Darya by the Pakistanis, Kashmir by the Indians and considered to be Xinjiang province by the Chinese, carpets are knotted using yarns which are locally hand spun and dyed with vegetable colors.
The “Farsibaft” or Persian knot (open to the right with a concentration of between 2,500 and 3,000 knots per square decimeter) is used; the warp is in twisted cotton, two weft threads pass between the warp threads, of which one is thicker and tighter and the other is finer and left loose.
The medium-low cut pile is always very shiny.
These carpets are of great decorative impact and are worked with a large variety of patterns which may be of clear Chinese or Khotan origin, as well as the more modern patterns of Western origin.
